Geometry - Mathematics

At the moment we are learning about Geometry in Maths.  As part of geometry we are learning about 2D and 3D shapes.  We are going to re-create our classroom in miniature form.

While the Year 8s were at one of the many High School Roadshows this week, the Year 7s were busy drawing the floor plan of our classroom and all the 2D shapes that can be seen from a bird's eye view.

Inquiry - BP Challenge: Bird Feeders

Today Mrs Bradshaw gave us a BP challenge.  Below shows our scenario, task and materials.

But before we got started we did a bit of a brainstorm and some research.

Then, in our Fish Philosophy Teams we got stuck in.

Mrs Bradshaw judged our Bird Feeders on the following criteria:

Conditions

• The feeding platform must be at least 60 cm above the floor.
• Use only the materials supplied.
• The structure cannot be fastened to the floor.
• The water container must be able to hold 10 ml of water without spills, while on the feeding platform.

Judging Criteria

• The vertical height from floor to the top of the bird shelter.
• Ability to hold the water in the container on the platform.

And Fish team  - FLUFFY won!!!

IPods for Maths

We are still getting used to having iPods in class, however, we did notice that there were lots of maths apps that looked pretty useful.

This week the pentagons have been investigating and reviewing different Maths Apps on the iPods.

They shared their findings on the Padlet.  Thank you Kane, Trinity, Malik, Tiaana and Ben.

Student Council has organised a disco for all Year 7 and 8s next week.  Check out the details by watching this video.

Book fair at Ross Intermediate

Last week your child may have brought home a flyer about Book Fair at Ross Intermediate.

Today we had a look through the books that are on offer and we filled in out 'Wish List' tonight we will bring them home and offer to do lots of jobs in order to be able to purchase one of the books on our 'Wish List'.

For every book purchased the school library is allocated some funds to spend on books. We have also shared some of the books from our 'Wish List' to a 'School Library Wish List'.

On Thursday between 3 and 5pm the school library will be open to the parents of Ross Intermediate to come and visit the Book Fair.
